Four reasons not to miss Four Last Songs

Four reasons not to miss Four Last Songs

As Omega Ensemble rehearses for tonight’s performance of Strauss’ Last Four Songs at the City Recital Hall, it is very clear to them that this is going to be one of their best performances.

Four reasons not to miss Four Last Songs

Lee Abrahmsen

Her voice has been described as having ‘a deliciously full-bodied tone, rich in expression and control’ by Limelight Magazine 2015. Lee Abrahmsen, guest soprano delivers heart rending songs of farewell.

Andrew Ford

Omega Ensemble will perform the world premiere of composer, writer and radio presenter Andrew Ford’s new work - Contradance. This piece was commissioned by Steven Alward as a sixtieth birthday present for this partner Mark Wakely. Scored for 11 instruments including wind quintet, piano and string quintet with some very low sounds from the bass clarinet, contrabassoon and double bass.

Omega Ensemble will deliver a rare gem from Mahler’s early years. This magnificent piano quartet movement is the only surviving piece of chamber music composed by Mahler without voice.

Omega Ensemble

Artistic Director, David Rowden has a vision for Omega Ensemble and this concert will bring this vision to life. “At the end of any performance by Omega Ensemble, I want the audience to go away with a feeling that they got to experience and discover something new, and perhaps expand their musical tastes.” - David Rowden.
